Definition: to be a fan of something

Notes: 饭 (fàn) = meal, rice, fan, to eat

Definition: an annual 48 Group event where fans cast votes for their favorite members

Notes: from the Japanese 総選挙 (sousenkyo) = general election

Definition: someone meeting an idol by call or video through a phone someone else brought to the handshake event venue

Notes: 电话握手 (diànhuà wòshǒu) = phone handshake

Definition: feeling negative emotions such as depression or angst

Notes: from “emotional”

enter the circle (进圈), into the circle (入圈), in the circle (圈内), ranked member

Definition: receiving a numbered rank at the annual general elections

Notes: 圈内 (quān nèi) = inside the circle

Definition: emotional intelligence

Notes: from “emotional intelligence quotient”

essence (精华)

Definition: important or excellent post

Notes: 精华 (jīnghuá) = essential, elite

face value (颜值, 面值), yan value (颜值)

Definition: looks, level of appearance or attractiveness

Notes: 颜值 (yán zhí), 面值 (miàn zhí) = facial value

fan club (后援会), hyh

Definition: organized fan club focusing on supporting someone’s career

Notes: 后援会 (hòuyuán huì) = fan club

fan hei, anti-black, anti-criminal (反黑)

Definition: fans clearing their idol’s name against negative statements or posts

Notes: 反黑 (fǎn hēi) = anti-black

fan station (站姐, 站哥, 站子), fansite

Definition: fans who take high-quality photos of idols in public spaces

Notes: 站姐 (zhàn jiě) = station sister, site sister

fanpai, flop (翻牌)

Definition: Pocket48 personal messages

Notes: 翻牌 (fānpái) also generally refers to celebrities interacting with fans

fanquan, rice circle, fan circle, fandom (饭圈)

Definition: idol fandom, fan community

Notes: 饭圈 (fàn quān) = rice circle

fantou, rice head (饭头)

Definition: head of a fan club

Notes: literally “rice head”

feizhai, fat otaku, fat house (肥宅)

Definition: otaku that are particularly obsessed with Japanese culture (demeaning term)

Notes: 肥宅 (féi zhái) = fat otaku

fengtianchengyun (奉天承芸), ftcy, yuhong (宇红)

Definition: FTCY (奉天承芸), the CP of Wang Xiaojia and Jiang Yun

Notes: from 奉天承芸 (fèng tiān chéng yún)

first push (首推, 一推), second push (二推), third push (三推), 1-oshi, 2-oshi, 3-oshi, …

Definition: a fan’s #1 favorite idol, #2 favorite idol, #3 favorite idol, etc.

Definition: an idol who is good at attracting fans, usually by acting flirty. equivalent to “tsurishi” in Japanese

Notes: 钓 (diào) = fishing

five emperors (五帝)

Definition: five popular 5th generation SNH48 members: Fei Qinyuan, Hong Peiyun, Jiang Shan, Yan Jiaojun, and Zhang Yi

Notes: 五帝 (wǔdì) = the Five Emperors, ancient Chinese mythological figures

flag (旗), 🚩

Definition: a goal or milestone to be reached

Notes: 旗 (qí) = flag

flow, traffic (流量)

Definition: online attention or traffic, such as social media impressions and views

Notes: 流量 (liúliàng) = flow, data traffic

fo, focus cam, fancam

Definition: a video directly focusing on a particular member or part of the stage

Notes: from “focus camera”

formula (公式), formula photo (公式照), kabesha

Definition: idols’ official profile photos

formula opponent (公式对手)

Definition: official rival, rivalry established to stimulate traffic or fundraising

Notes: 公式对手 (gōngshì duìshǒu) = formula opponent. from the Japanese 公式 (koushiki) = official

fragrant (香)

Definition: satisfying, enjoyable

Notes: 香 (xiāng) = fragrant, perfume

fry cp (炒 cp)

Definition: a CP being marketed as a romantic relationship for the sake of traffic (despite the people in the CP not actually being in a relationship with each other)

Notes: 炒 cp (chǎo CP) = fry CP

fuhei, black belly, haraguro (腹黑)

Definition: someone who appears innocent and friendly but is secretly curel and manipulative

Notes: from the Japanese 腹黒 (haraguro) = manipulative

future girls, fg, top66, running group (奔跑组)

Definition: members who ranked in elections from #49 to #66 (not currently in use)

Notes: 奔跑组 (bēnpǎo zǔ) = Running Group
